|Yup, it certainly is but first I'm gonna share something with you.
This morning I awoke to the sounds of THE SHINS on the radio, whose show you ask? TERRY flippin' WOGAN! Now, if you don't know of them (a slightly obscure, although obviously not that obscure, American Alt/Indie band), then this story is lost on you. Click on their name for a link all about them - if you think their name is familiar then you've maybe seen GARDEN STATE where they are name-checked by NATALIE PORTMAN's character. Their new single, "Australia", has been played pretty constantly on 6MUSIC, as expected, but on TERRY WOGAN? Who is doing his playlist? Top marks to him but the tune after was by bloody Michael Bolton. Sticking with music, another tune getting played by all stations is MARK RONSON's cover of THE SMITHS' "Stop me If You Think You've Heard This One Before". Odd stuff. Also THE WATERBOYS are back with a great (if slightly reminiscent of "Fisherman's Blues") song, "Everyone Takes A Tumble". So, onto TV and it's back, no not DOCTOR WHO (not yet), yup THE APPRENTICE. And look who's back, none other than JAFAR!
Is he seeking out the diamond in the rough?Of course not, it's TRE, one of this year's obnoxious tossers! Sorry, I mean contestants. As usual S'R-ALAN (that's how it sounds when they say his name) was on top form as were the numpties up for the job. Can't remember who said this (though I am sure HARRY HILL may remind me on Saturday) but one of my favourite lines was: "It's not all biscuits and sandwiches". Erm, wha? If only it was. The chap who ended up getting fired came up with the classic "We work until we bleed". Glad he's not a doctor. Anyway, a great first episode though there seems to be too many business-like-toffs.
If you cut me (or fire me), do I not bleed?
Elsewhere, LIFE ON MARS continues its excellent form, though not as good as last week. There were some top lines, mainly delivered by nonce-kicking GENE HUNT, such as :
"Slower than a spastic in a magnet factory"Interestingly, in this week's RADIO TIMES WHO spectacular, it was mentioned there would be a follow-up show called ASHES TO ASHES which would strongly hint that it is set in the Eighties - it did not confirm who was in it, guess that would spoil the end of this season. Also, JOHN SIMM was confirmed for the DR WHO finale, the last episode of which is called "Last Of The Time Lords". What was that noise you ask? The noise of my dinkle doing a large burp. Speaking of dinkles, here's another early morning radio story. I was half asleep (or was I half awake....?) and heard that RUSSELL BRAND was to star in a film with EDDIE MURPHY & CHRIS ROCK. Now, of course, I dismissed this as a dream later on in the day (it was about 7am when I heard this) and was unsure if it was reality or not. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, go HERE to see that my 'dream' was actually reality.
"He's got his finger in more pies than a leper in a cooking class"
"Faker than a trannys fanny!"
"I could murder an Indian"
"As nervous as a very short nun at a penguin shoot"
ROCK! MURPHY! DINKLE!
Back to music, here's a list of current tunes I like:
The Shins: Australia
Regina Spektor: Fidelity
CSS: Off The Hook
The Waterboys: Everybody Takes A Tumble
Kings Of Leon : On Call
Mark Ronson: Stop Me
A friend of mine was gonna invest in a company that made "Exit" signs, I told him not to bother. He asked why.
I said, "They're on their way out".
Til the next time
