HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOCTOR WHO!
As THE BEATLES almost said, "It was 44 years ago today..."

DOCTOR WHO - Nov 23rd 1963

Yup, good 'ole DOCTOR WHO started this day in 1963, just one day after JFK was 'assassinated'. It's a testament to the show and the people who created it (and still create it) that WHO is the longest running sci-fi programme ever - even if the GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS says otherwise. From the eerie opening of AN UNEARTHLY CHILD to the surreal closing of the most recent series (yeah America, we say 'series' over here!), DOCTOR WHO has changed to the meet the needs of the times (maybe not in the late Eighties) but has always has the most remarkable quality (again, maybe not in the late Eighties). It is this quality that was instilled by the show's first producer that has sustained the series and now made it more popular than ever.

DOCTOR WHO - Nov 16th 2007

Sadly, today brought news that the first producer of the show, VERITY LAMBERT, passed away yesterday. So much was her importance in the history of the show that even this year she was name-checked in the episode HUMAN NATURE when the Doctor in human form, JOHN SMITH, reveals his parents' names - she was literally the mother of the show. Her legacy includes many other shows, you can read about them in her obituary, but it is not surprising that the headline on the BBC website read, "Doctor Who's first producer dies". You can see the story HERE.

Verity Lambert

The show would never continued if the production team had not got it right and VERITY was integral in its inception. Such a large part, that her name will be alongside that of the actors who played the Timelord when the show's history is told.
